"Deep In My Mind" - a 70s-horror-inspired look through the rafters at family-life turned sour, habits that become annoying, familiarity that becomes suffocating, and the whispered solutions that a dark house might offer. You may think you're in control. But are you?
(Chorus)
It all starts down in the heart, it ends deep in my mind
I'll find some way to turn back time
But the voice inside told me to bide my time
Says that they'll never find out what we've done
(Verse - Blake)
A memory so vivid and clear
All the boxes were stacked as we settled in here
A new start for the family, a quiet kind of calm
But the shadows felt longer as days moved along
The routine was simple, but cracks in the flow
Something whispering quietly, the seeds they were sown
Late nights stressed out for work, his frustration it grew
His kids they grew louder, his marriage it soured
His power, it wavered, as influence grew
They're keeping you down, parasites upon you
And where is your wife? Probably out cheating on you
I've got the solution to take back your life
Here take this kitchen knife
(Chorus)
It all starts down in the heart, it ends deep in my mind
I'll find some way to turn back time
But the voice inside told me to bide my time
Says that they'll never find out what we've done
(Verse - Gloom)
Hushed as the sun goes to set
In a weathered old home all are tucked in their beds
Through the slat plaster rib cage you'll hear a sweet song
Softly hummed from the rafters as temperatures drop
Down each hallway a shadow stands just out of reach
Hinting murder and massacre all while they sleep
Now if only you could make the whispering stop
Then demons would leave and the nightmares on top
Shhh, I'm here in your mind we're alone
You and I caught in a spin it's so haunting
Ethereal, spectral, and phantasmagoric
I'm the ghost in the dark and I'm all that you need
And this house won’t let you leave
(Chorus)
It all starts down in the heart, it ends deep in my mind
I'll find some way to turn back time
But the voice inside told me to bide my time
Says that they'll never find out what we've done
A Song that's evolved
"Deep In My Mind" was our first track written around guitar, a departure that had unexpected consequences for how the song has evolved. Most of our songs are cast in stone the moment they hit music platforms. They tend to be fixed in time, written and arranged in a way that feels complete.
With a song composed around the "playable" element of guitar, we found ourselves in a different place. The song was more malleable. More open to change. Each performance, even post-release, felt like it tweaked and added to the song. Even now, variations played live or in the studio can feel like a new version of the song.
Check back soon and we'll have guitar tabs all ready for you to learn (and improve on) yourselves!
Building a Haunted House
The house is not just the setting of the song, but the main character. To bring it to life, we knew the album art had to be more than just "a house". We wanted a building that felt like it had a personality, a history, and a presence.
At the same time, we wanted to give it that twisted, fractured vibe that the song hints at. A house that feels familiar, but also unsettling.
Amityville was an obvious influence, but we took architectural cues from the other classic 70s horror films like Texas Chainsaw, The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby. We wanted to capture that blend of the ordinary and the sinister, the domestic and the supernatural. A place that could be a home, but also a prison.
